Click here for the Lucky Room of the Day duties
Daily tasks (Try to do these as soon as you get up or at least before you go anywhere.)
-
Make the bed
-
Put away shoes
-
Put dirty laundry in the hamper
-
Hang up clothes you plan to wear again
-
Straighten up your books and magazines
What to do when the bedroom is the Lucky Room of the Day:
-
Make the bed with clean sheets
-
If the day is nice, air out your blankets and comforters outside
-
Put away shoes
-
Put dirty clothes in the hamper
-
Hang up clothes you plan to wear again
-
Go through your magazines.
-
Clip articles you want to save then throw the rest of the magazine away.
-
If you save certain magazines, put them away neatly (hopefully you have magazine holders that make your collection look neater.)
-
Give away the rest of the magazines (or throw them away if you know you’ll never get around to giving them away.)
-
Go through your books. Put the library books you’re finished with in your car to return. Same with books you have borrowed from others.
-
Put your own books away unless you’re actively reading them.
-
Put your children’s toys in their designated toy area.
-
Grab a trash bag and throw away all the trash emptied from pockets and shopping bags over the past week… or more.
-
Choose one dresser top or shelf to completely clean off and rearrange. Try to chose a different one each week.
-
Using a damp cloth, work around the room dusting from top to bottom
-
(If you’d like, use some windex on your windows, mirrors, and picture glass and wipe down the frames and windowsills.)
-
Vacuum thoroughly.
-
Put the blankets and comforters back on the bed

August 13th, 2003 at 7:43 amOne thing you may want to add to the list is vacuuming your mattresses. I know it sounds silly, but it really helps with dust mites, pet dander, etc. My husband’s and son’s alergies have improved quite a bit just through doing this once a week. Also, the Fabreeze Alergen Reducer spray seems to work well.

March 31st, 2004 at 2:27 pmDon’t just toss old magazines, donate them to your local school(s) for their many art, social studies, science, etc. projects that need cut-and-paste pictures. Be sure to remove your address labels or you might find yourself on an artwork!

December 29th, 2004 at 9:16 amYou can also donate magazines to local hospitals, community health clinics, etc. They are usually very welcoming of magazines. Especially men’s magazines.

June 22nd, 2005 at 7:03 pmI think it is a wonderful idea to give magazines to the hospital. However, there is a downfall for people like me. I found that my housekeeping problems stemmed from the fact that I have adult ADD. I used to be unable to just toss the magazines thinking of it as “uncaring” and wastefull. Inevitably, they would end up in a pile to be cleaned the next go around or scattered all over the floor of the car two months later. I finally realize that for me, I have to just discard immediately. I still have a moment’s hesitation every time but now I have a much cleaner house. Sometimes if a friend is cleaning with me, I give them to her or she will take them to the hospital for me.
Thanks for letting me share,
Nancy

January 1st, 2006 at 11:40 pmI find it easier to keep a tote bag just for library trips. I have one book shelf dedicated to library books and as I finish the books I put them into the tote bag. I do have several books off the shelf at once, but I never have to do a big hunt through my bedroom to find books to return.

May 3rd, 2006 at 9:36 amTake articals out of the magazines that you want then put in file for 1 month. When you have enough in the box drop them at a business office you go to that have no new reading material.

February 20th, 2008 at 12:42 pmI was wondering if anyone knows how to clean those foam mattress toppers? I use a mattress protector over it but was wondering if I should attempt to wash it. Do you think it will fall apart in the washing machine?
