I would try to keep about 6-7 pairs of regular clothes and underwear and socks, and maybe an extra pair of pants that fit, because if you have a seventy-two hour kit, in case of an emergency, you have clothes to wear. You don't have to worry if you have enough clothes because you do!

Course, you also want other things in your seventy-two hour kit, and for that list you can look online and see what they have in a typlcal 72 hour kit they sell for 300.00. You can put one together for less than 100.00. (Ok, 150.00 tops)

Anyway, if you have any questions, email me, and I'll try to answer any questions you may have.
I can tell you my other reccomendations for the kit too.
Thanks!

I read somewhere on your site to do a load each night whether it fills the machine or not. Although this method is not entirely green, it has helped in our very busy household and since buying a washing machine which only uses as much water as suits the load, I don't feel so bad about it.
Thanks for a great motivational site.

I tend to accumulate baskets of clean, folded, but not put away laundry in my bedroom. When I have two or more baskets to put away...I either watch the Home and Garden channel or pull out an oldie/goldie movie from our collection. I watch while I put away clothes in my bedroom. I make two baskets: one for each kid...and during commercials or pausing the movie...I rush and hurry and put way one kid's clothes per commercial or break....It gets to be fun, and silly too! When I'm done folding, and if I've done my work for the day: I finish the show or the movie...but only if I'm been a "good girl".

I have always had a problem with letting the laundry pile up too long and then having 8 loads to do at once. So, I bought a laundry organizer (metal frame on wheels that holds three mesh bags). It works wonderfully. Everyday I pick up the dirty clothes from the hamper and have my kids bring me their dirty clothes, which I divide into the three bags. Whites, colored and jeans. When the bag gets full I wash, dry and fold that load. It has helped me to stay on top of the laundry pile.

No one in our family likes to fold clothes. My solution is to make 4 piles: underwear/whites, pants, shirts, and towels. (My 3 kids use a fresh towel every time they shower, so we always have a machine load's worth!)

I dry shirts until they're only slightly damp. When shirts come out of the dryer, they go straight onto hangers. Towels and pants get folded, but I see no point in folding underwear (who sees it anyway?). All I do is match the socks and give everyone their stuff in a pile.

My next project is to find a place to hide all but 3 towels from the kids.

I normally do 2 loads of laundry each day, sometimes 3 if my daughter has been in and out of the house several times! I usually wash one load of towels, socks, undies late at night. Next morning, if it's not raining, I hang that load on the clothesline and throw in a load of clothes before going to work (this is assuming they are just plain t-shirts, etc.. that I know will not run.) When I get in from work, I take down the load off the line, throw the other load into the dryer and by bedtime all my laundry is washed, dried, ironed or folded and put away.

I am a mom of 3 boys (11, 8 & 4) and the laundry can really pile up. I put to use your suggestion. Each night, before bed, I tell the boys what laundry color I'm going to wash the next day. It is their responsibility to put that color in the laundry basket before bed. Then after hugs and kisses and tucks into bed I gather mine and the DH laundry of the same color and the laundry goes downstairs and into the washer. Then in the AM I run the load, dry , fold and put away. Ready for the next load. This usually helps keep me on top of the laundry. Obviously some days it just doesn't get done- but most of the time it works!!!
