I just finished cleaning the laundry room....I do it once a year whether it needs it or not....ha, ha. I have read most of the comments and am glad to see I'm not the only one who is so messy. I feel very inspired by what I have read. Thanks ... I needed this.

Dodie, I'm so glad you've been able to work on your degree! I finished mine in December. I'm still digging the house out!

Kathleen, sorry I was insensitive to people who use communal laundry facilities!! I'll have to think about a good alternative, though I'm leaning towards the option of just not having that many clothes! As for the oven, I am solidly against hiding anything in the oven or putting anything on the cooktop. Too easy to start fires!

I can't believe it, but here I am again, another year has gone by and I'm still here, trying to get psyched up to do the emergency clean again. It is interesting to me to see my earlier posts. If it worked before, it'll work again.

I'm almost through to my Masters degree, and I'm tired. I have tried four different housekeepers in the last six months, and have found them to be unreliable. Usually OK the first time they come, good the second, and then they start trying to make more money per hour by working less - and sometimes don't show up at all. I had a gal that was supposed to come three different times last week, and I've just given up. She's supposed to be here for four hours and the last time she was here for less than an hour and a half, and I couldn't tell she had cleaned anything. I'm just saying, I think it is less work to just buckle down and do it all myself.
So, I'm supposed to be on vacation at the beach, but I'm here working on two projects for grad school and cleaning the house. I guess that's what they call finally growing up. LOL.
I'm gonna vacuum first before I start the clean sweep, because there's crumbs and plant leaves on the floor that are sure to stick if I get them wet wiping down something.

How are all of you? How are you doing, Jenne? Did you get to finish your degree?
Thank you for keeping this site going. I appreciate it.

LOVE this site - especially the forum. Just one problem with the Emergency plan above, though. We don't have and never have had our own washer/dryer. We have to use a community laundry room or go to the laundromat. Our community machines are constantly in demand, so leaving laundry in front of/in them isn't really an option. And declaring unfolded clean laundry to be dirty gets very expensive and time consuming when a quarter of your wardrobe is unfolded clean laundry waiting for the space in front of your dressers and closets to be cleared enough for access. As a final note: Someone mentioned hiding dirty dishes in the oven. Thought I'd share the warning that we've lost one large plastic cutting board when someone forgot to check that the oven was empty before preheating it and we lost a disposable tupperware lid that couldn't be seen in the dark back corner. (No oven light.) We had to use baking soda to put out the small oil fire it caused and it took weeks to get that smell out of the oven! So be very careful NOT to hide anything that isn't oven safe anyway!

Hi,
Im a 28 year old female who has always been a messy hoarder, my parents are very tidy and clean and i wonder if its partly because i rebelled against that and knew they would always tidy my messy room.
However when i moved out of home at 23 it was a big change and i found myself storing stuff in the shed and that if i did not miss it after a year i would put it in a garage sale or hire a miniskip to collect it.
I recently had my partner move in and he is a picean like me which apparently are known for their hoarding and while he is very tidy and clean he does have a lot of stuff. Thanks for all your tips i am on holidays at the momement and lack motivation to get started but today and for next four days i am going to sort, organise, tidy and clean as much as possible and then do the 15 minutes a day cheers for the motivation & making me feel less alone in my mess.:)

This is a wonderful site, it makes me feel like I am connected with friends who would not judge me. My fella and I have been "renovating" for 10 years and right now I don't even have a bathroom. We are washing in the laundry while standing in a baby's bath. I can't get near my piano because of the storage boxes full of bathroom stuff and I can't find a specific utensil in the kitchen because everything is stuffed under a work bench. For years I have been cooking with only a micro-wave and an electic fry pan but we can still have some fun dinners with family.
Friends are another matter. I haven't had any mates in our house for years, it's horrible. I owe so many dinners but I can't bring myself to invite anyone into the mess. I'll try the emergency clean tomorrow, fingers crossed that it makes me feel less of a pig. cheers

I knew this site was for me when i read "this is important! Don't stop to read or play with anything you find..."
So happy to find so many others like me! its reassuring. and its motivating, i'm going to tackle the laundry monster right now, and do an emergency clean sweep to get me started.
i have a friend who has a trick that works for her, after she's cleaned the place up, she maintains it by setting the timer for 15 minutes every day, and going gung ho.
K, hang in there. you're not alone.

Hello to all,
My energy is high for life but not for keeping my house in order. I am in dire assistance of using this energy to organize my house and in return, my life. I feel if I could overcome my inability to keep things tidy, clean, and in order, I could give back to this world by being a more productive citizen, leader, employee, and most importantly a Mother who has is together. Additionally, a partner in a relationship.

Currently, I am a single parent of two, divorced twice, a nontraditional college student at age 41, and have a low level of follow-through. I believe if I could utilize my broad and multi-talents to assist in a career that would benefit many of the same type of individuals as me.

When a system/process is absent from one’s daily life, life tends to be very chaotic and filled with high level of stress. This is what I seem to live every day. Over the years, I have created a lot of aggravation, stress, and anxiety in my life as for others as well.

One of my many struggles in life is failing to be on time. This is something that I have tried my whole life to overcome. It makes me look bad and creates a perception that is filled with disrespect and inconsiderate feelings towards me. As I recall many years back, my step mother got very upset at me for being late to meet my Father and her. I had never seen her so upset, especially at me.

Somehow some way, these issues have been a lingering thought process for me in the last 20 years in which I am ready now to embark on a journey to elevate the above issues in my life. Additionally, I have seen a pattern in my two kids as well. That disturbes me.

In regards to seeking a lifetime partner, I have difficulty understanding how a man could have tolerance with the way I live my life. I just recently read how if one is thinking about engaging in a meaningful relationship, there has to be somewhat of a sign in their home to attract it. For example, the bedroom should look as if there could be two people who share this space and certainly needs to appear inviting as well. Unfortunately, my bedroom is usually a mess. In fact, sometimes I get depressed just by entering into my room.

The kitchen and bathroom is usually thought of as being a germ-free environment as a whole. However, in my case, this does not hold true. I know both should be clean, but for some reason I fail to do something about it. This is the mentality that cripples me in my everyday life. My kitchen depresses me as well as my bathroom.

As far as my car, uhhhhh...that too is embarrassing as well. I find myself not wanting anyone to know what car I drive due to it always being in disarray. They say appearance of one's car is a sign of how they live their live in addition to how their house looks. Can you agree with that notion?

My basement is always a mess. Doing laundry is sometimes avoided for that reason. I always hope that no one is peeking in the windows for my fears of them finding out that I am a disorganized and messy person.

What I need, desire, and require, is a system/process that will teach me to stay on track and live a happier life. Being organized I believe will create many avenues in my life of success, joy, and positive opportunities for my future. I know this is possible, but need a kick start and solid support to overcome this dilemma.

Thank you so kindly for taking the time to read my story. Everyone has a story just waiting to be told and most importantly, to be heard.

Blessings to all of you in your journey of getting your lives together and living a joyful, happy, and fruitful life.

Sincerely,

Desperate K
