Remember that the Emergency Clean Sweep is a Crisis Clean. Ideally we would NEVER be in this situation, but the fact is, many of us messies do find ourselves in this situation. A little cleaning and tidying is FAR better than no cleaning and tidying, but cleaning doesn't get done when one is paralyzed with guilt.

I'm so glad that you have completed your master's! I was overwhelmed with my first year on my new job and let this site go a bit. I was so happy to see this comment as I was getting rid of the spam that went through my filter!

I can get my house clean, but I can't keep it clean. Didn't have a lot of time to seach the site completely, but I would love some pointers on what I can do each day, so that I can regain my sanity. I am just glad I am not the only person with this problem. Thanks for sharing everyone.

I've never been good at cleaning. My room growing up with a federal disaster zone. Once I went away to college something changed a bit. I would let my dorm spacew get messy and cluttered, but every Thursday night I spent a couple hours super cleaning. I mean, literally on my hands and knees scrubbing the floor. Then I had my son some years later. I wasn't able to do things, and ever since then it has been a struggle to do the house keeping. When I was married, he was a neat freak and did many of the cleaning duties. Dishes literally make me sick to my stomach, but I like doing laundry. But one of the very few decent things was that he did a good share of the housework. Then he broke my foot, he was removed from our home, and my house went to complete shambles while I was on crutches with an almost three year old and an infant. It's safe to say my house hasn't been in "decent" shape since my daughter's second birthday. She'll be four in little less than a month. It has progressively gotten worse. I haven't had visitors in about two years because I am so ashamed and embarrassed by the state of things. That, and my inability to get it taken care of. Divorce, job loss, constant problems with my ex, and now my son being diagnosed with Asperger's, I have become so depressed withdrawn, and exhausted that I find all I can do during the day is sleep. Then the problem of not being able to afford our trash pick-up, so I was six months without that service. I'm allowed four bags/week, so I'm still playing catch up on that. It has been absolutely awful. It makes me sick, disgusted, and I find myself hating me over it. Now I'm in a time crunch to get things in order for a home inspection, and I'm losing my mind over it. I haven't slept since 6am yesterday, because it is easier to clean all night while the kids are sleeping. I have until about lunch tomorrow to make the house acceptable. I am so glad I was able to find this page again. It helped me out a couple of years ago. I took my first "break" to search for it. Now I just need to print it and get back to work. With any luck, I'll be able to take a nap tomorrow before dinner. It does feel a little better knowing I am not the only one trying to cope with this.
