Hi! I’m a “single again” with a son who just graduated from college. I’d give anything to be truly a neat person. My name on facebook is Dodie Neatfreakwannabe. I’m always accepting new friends. ) I first found Jenne when the Emergency Clean was a page on about.com. It has saved my neck on more than one occasion! I use the emergency clean frequently! It’s probably how I really clean this place. I love MyMessyHouse. It has a lot of good information. By the way, Jenne was the one who inspired me to go back to college in 2007. I didn’t think I could, but I graduated with my Masters in May 2011, and that was great.

I’m married with four children, all boys and ranging from 10yrs down to 5mths. I’m not a particularly tidy person but wish I was, and that really just for the sake of saving myself the embarrassment of when visitors come round. I find it very hard at the moment just to keep on top of the basic things. I know I have my hands full with having children and one of those still a baby but it still frustrates me all the same. :-S

Remember that the Emergency Clean Sweep is a Crisis Clean. Ideally we would NEVER be in this situation, but the fact is, many of us messies do find ourselves in this situation. A little cleaning and tidying is FAR better than no cleaning and tidying, but cleaning doesn’t get done when one is paralyzed with guilt.

In Over My Head: I’m so sorry for the lack of updates. It was a total nightmare. We didn’t budget enough time and we underestimated how much stuff we had. It was a horrible experience that I hope I never have to go through again. When I feel up to it, I will start a series on the lessons I learned from this move.

I’m so glad that you have completed your master’s! I was overwhelmed with my first year on my new job and let this site go a bit. I was so happy to see this comment as I was getting rid of the spam that went through my filter!

I can get my house clean, but I can’t keep it clean. Didn’t have a lot of time to seach the site completely, but I would love some pointers on what I can do each day, so that I can regain my sanity. I am just glad I am not the only person with this problem. Thanks for sharing everyone.

also, clean top to bottom,meaning get the webs off the celing first,( real easy with those swiffer things) always vacumn last.
but excelent site, when you have a big job to do, just do it. dont look at it, pick up that garbage.just do it becuase if you think about it, youll never get it done

This all sounds great and I was a perfectionist housekeeper before I had kids but give me some tips other than above if you homeschool and the kids are with you 24/7? And have a special needs autistic child and 4 year old. Any suggestions? No time for the above on set days… Papers are piling up, even though I have designated baskets and bins and under the bed boxes for them… So, I am up for ideas but the above does not work with the little time I have… Oh, and did I say we don’t buy fast food as I have to cook every meal since we are on a special diet for my daughter and of course for us it is healthier… Not complaining, it is what it is… But spend most my time preparing food when I am not homeschooling or doing laundry… I get at my wits end and drained of energy every time I see paper piles (list and papers and books for my autistic daughter) and the piles and bags my 4 year old likes to put her toys in… always seems like everything is out of place… And I am an organizer… not a messie… hmmmm????? Maybe I am still wanting a house that looks like Country home magazine with kids and am delirious?? I am exhausted… Thanks!!!
