LOVE this site – especially the forum. Just one problem with the Emergency plan above, though. We don’t have and never have had our own washer/dryer. We have to use a community laundry room or go to the laundromat. Our community machines are constantly in demand, so leaving laundry in front of/in them isn’t really an option. And declaring unfolded clean laundry to be dirty gets very expensive and time consuming when a quarter of your wardrobe is unfolded clean laundry waiting for the space in front of your dressers and closets to be cleared enough for access. As a final note: Someone mentioned hiding dirty dishes in the oven. Thought I’d share the warning that we’ve lost one large plastic cutting board when someone forgot to check that the oven was empty before preheating it and we lost a disposable tupperware lid that couldn’t be seen in the dark back corner. (No oven light.) We had to use baking soda to put out the small oil fire it caused and it took weeks to get that smell out of the oven! So be very careful NOT to hide anything that isn’t oven safe anyway!

my husband and i have few cloths and if i dont wash at least three times a week we usually have no cloths to wear. doing laundry is so boring any tips on making it fun?

Hi,
Im a 28 year old female who has always been a messy hoarder, my parents are very tidy and clean and i wonder if its partly because i rebelled against that and knew they would always tidy my messy room.
However when i moved out of home at 23 it was a big change and i found myself storing stuff in the shed and that if i did not miss it after a year i would put it in a garage sale or hire a miniskip to collect it.
I recently had my partner move in and he is a picean like me which apparently are known for their hoarding and while he is very tidy and clean he does have a lot of stuff. Thanks for all your tips i am on holidays at the momement and lack motivation to get started but today and for next four days i am going to sort, organise, tidy and clean as much as possible and then do the 15 minutes a day cheers for the motivation & making me feel less alone in my mess.:)

This is a wonderful site, it makes me feel like I am connected with friends who would not judge me. My fella and I have been “renovating” for 10 years and right now I don’t even have a bathroom. We are washing in the laundry while standing in a baby’s bath. I can’t get near my piano because of the storage boxes full of bathroom stuff and I can’t find a specific utensil in the kitchen because everything is stuffed under a work bench. For years I have been cooking with only a micro-wave and an electic fry pan but we can still have some fun dinners with family.
Friends are another matter. I haven’t had any mates in our house for years, it’s horrible. I owe so many dinners but I can’t bring myself to invite anyone into the mess. I’ll try the emergency clean tomorrow, fingers crossed that it makes me feel less of a pig. cheers

I knew this site was for me when i read “this is important! Don’t stop to read or play with anything you find…”
So happy to find so many others like me! its reassuring. and its motivating, i’m going to tackle the laundry monster right now, and do an emergency clean sweep to get me started.
i have a friend who has a trick that works for her, after she’s cleaned the place up, she maintains it by setting the timer for 15 minutes every day, and going gung ho.
K, hang in there. you’re not alone.
