I agree with you about government not getting too involved. However, I think the feds will get way too involved, thinking that they need to spare people pain....

Hi, Jenne! I went back to grad school following you - so far I'm doing very well in my classes while still working full time. Can't say the house looks good right now though. I'm sitting here getting ready to do the emergency clean because I can't stand it any more. LOL> I know I love it when the house is clean, but my daily habits are poor. If I could jst not make the messes,... Time to dump the fridge, etc. :*)

PS I see I've logged on in two different ways. I am Dodie/Mayne. (mayne is my email)

Hi, Jenne! I haven't posted in a while -- still using the emergency clean instead of flylady 'cause I just can't do all that every day. I work a full time job and am going to grad school full time. No time for the daily feather dusting, etc. Anyway, the emergency clean is my weekly (or, when things are going wrong, bi-weekly LOL) cleanup. The only thing I add is that I start by doing a quick vac to get the major hair and crud of of the floors. That way, if water from the dishes or the bathroom gets anything wet, it won't be glued to the floor. Then I work my way through the list. I am so glad I found you all those years ago on about.com. This is the most valuable thing on the net regarding cleaning. :*)

Just stumbled upon your site, and am starting to read. What a great article. As someone who has struggled w/this issue and am beating it -- without professional therpy, just a lot of internet research and reflection -- I am always interested to know that I am not alone.

The other thing I have finally realized is that you don't have to find the perfect home for something, either. If it makes you feel better and that's the only way you can divest yourself of it, great. But, if you don't have the time, it is ok to give yourself permission to just let it go. Magazines, for example, I pass along to relatives or simply throw them in the recycle.

I don't know if you have already covered this, but I came up with a way to organize my jewelry that I am actually finding very useful and easy to maintain. I keep my jewelry in a drawer in the bathroom. That's because that's where I look in the mirror to decide what to wear with my outfit, but I would suggest setting this up wherever you dress and check out how everything looks together -- maybe the bedroom. Anyway, I have two drawer organizer trays that I can stack one on top of the other in the drawer. In the top one are the items I wear the most by category - one compartment has all plain, silver earrings, one long compartment has all necklaces with matching earrings, and the matching earrings all go in a compartment next door. There's a space for plain chains, a space for earring backs and necklace extenders, a space for pendants and the earrings that match. The silver is also separate from the gold. There's room in the drawer next to the stacked trays, and that's where I put larger items that won't fit in the tray compartments -- big necklaces, bracelets, etc., as well as items like pearls that I keep in a protective pouch. I also have my silver polishing cloth in there.

When I undress after the work day, I stand in the bathroom and take off my jewelry and immediately put it away. It makes finding things sooooo much easier, and allows me to see everything I have, so I find I am wearing more different pieces of my jewelry now.

Can't wait to see the new boards! I've been checking back regularly to see when they are up again. If you need any help with moderating or anything let me know. I have a fair bit of experience with message board hosting :)

Thanks for the link to the Zen site - it looks pretty cool. I saw the link off that site to the Parent Hack site and that also looks pretty cool. I really need to get my kids' toys in order! I have a really hard time deciding which should stay and which should go.

My daughter Joy is extremely messey. She leaves her clothes everywhere. Pigs could live happy in her enviroment. The dust on the floor migles with what ever material lays upon it.She never cleans. I can't invite people over because of my embarrassment. I have tried to help her clean it up several times.it gets worse. what can we do about it?
