If you’re overwhelmed with your house, embarrassed to have anyone over, and exhausted by all of the organizing information out there, My Messy House is the right place for you. I am a Messie. Not a reformed Messie or a recovered Messie, but an honest-to-goodness packrat Messie. I won’t promise you instant results, but I can promise that if you stick with it and do a little bit every day, you can reach an acceptable point. You might never be a full-fledged cleanie, but there is hope for you, just like there has been for me.
My Messy House began in 1998 as a way for me to motivate myself to clean and declutter my home and to help other people. In 2000, I moved the information to my first domain name, then I bought the MyMessyHouse.com domain name and moved the Messie information there. The site hit a lull in 2004 when I went back to school for my master’s degree, but I’m now ready to gear it back up. My real house always looks better when I’m keeping up with My Messy House.
I’m always looking for writers to contribute their stories and advice. If this site ever becomes profitable, writers will be able to share in the profits. You can apply by emailing me at jenne@mymessyhouse.com or commenting on this page.

April 19th, 2007 at 8:49 amHow often is this site updated? It doesn’t seem like there is anything new. Where is the info for the “Bathroom” room of the day?

May 6th, 2007 at 3:11 pmBathroom is the ROTD for Thursday. I have been using this site for years. The site owner is pretty busy, but if you put the ROTD in an order that works for you then it will serve you well. I have benifited greatly from this site and choose it over fly lady.. I could not keep up with the emails and being near the computer was too much of a distraction for me.

May 6th, 2007 at 7:25 pmI was looking for the LROTD info for the Bathroom also. Hoping that there will be a link to it on Thursday :/

May 29th, 2007 at 3:42 pmJust click on Room By Room and choose what you need. I couldn’t do flylady either because focusing on one area for a weeek lets the rest get too messy. I need more chances! Thanks Jenne!

June 5th, 2007 at 5:24 amHi, yeah I clicked in Room by Room and there is no bathroom info. I even tried going on the internet way back machine to find the info, because I know it was on here before she changed the format of the site, but I wasn’t able to find it on the way back machine either. Ahh well, hopefully she’ll get around to it eventually.
Happy Cleaning!

June 11th, 2007 at 9:02 pmHi Krista, Try using Flylady’s detailed cleaning lists except just do the room a day instead of a zone a week and work for an hour and get done what you can get done from the list. I’m like Kris. I need to cover the zones more than once a month. You can also try the cleaning lists and ideas at A Virtuous Woman http://avirtuouswoman.org/ Scroll down to Household Notebook on the left hand column. Lots of great cleaning and planning pages there. Hope that helps.

July 3rd, 2007 at 6:23 amHi Paige, thanks for the idea. I actually use Flylady’s site and I still do the zone a week. I’m using the room a day instead of weekly house blessing day. It seems to work better for me. Rather than spending an entire day on weekly house blessing I spend about 15-30 minutes a day. I’m going to check out the link you gave me, and see what is on her site.
Thanks again.

July 9th, 2007 at 9:58 pmI had this saved on my computer it’s the Bathroom Room of the Day list Hope this helps since it’s missing.
Weekly Duties: What to do when the Bathroom is the Lucky Room of the Day
• Take dirty clothes and towels to the laundry area
• Put bathmats in the washer. Also wash your shower curtain if it needs it and if it’s machine-washable.
• Throw away trash
• Put toiletries away
• Put the things that normally sit on the counter into a bin and put it in the hallway while you finish cleaning
• Spray cleaner on the sink, counter, and tub. Wait about five minutes, then scrub. Make sure you use the proper type of cleaner, especially if you have a porcelain tub!
• Use Murphy’s Oil Soap to wipe down the fronts and exposed sides of cabinets.
• Spray cleaner on the toilet and use toilet paper to wipe it down. Don’t forget the outside of the bowl where you rarely see it! Pay attention to the base as well.
• Wash the mirror and the other glass in the bathroom
• Sweep and mop the floor
• When everything dries, put back the shower curtain, bathmats, towels, and toiletries

I tip I recently learned about for the bathroom mirror is to smear shaving cream on it, let it sit till it is almost all evaporated (good time to clean the toilet), wipe it off, your mirror will be clean and won’t fog up when you shower or dh shaves! This “no fog” lasts for about 2 weeks.

I have 2 boys under 6. So toilets are a big source of mess in my bathroom. In addition to wiping down the toilet everyday - I use Clorox wipes - I also use a Swiffer wet mop around the toilet floor. Once a week it gets a good mopping, but I have found without the daily wipe, the bathroom starts to smell - ug!

July 18th, 2007 at 9:02 pmI am so excited to find this website and to find out there are others who are messy like me. I don’t have hobbies because I always feel so guilty about all the housework that needs to be done! I have taken classes on time management and once did the Sidetracked Home Executives routine, but that didn’t stick either. I work at home now and I thought I would have more time, but it seems now like I have less! I can’t wait to start using all the tips and see how I do. Pray for me! Also, is there a list about doing a Room each day? I thought I saw that in the comments but didn’t know where to look for it.
